Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas 2018 Celebrations in Jordan

On January 09, 2018, Embassy of India in Amman celebrated the ‘Pravasi Bharatiya Divas’ (PBD) in Jordan. It was on this day in 1915 Mahatma Gandhi, the most famous Pravasi, returned to India from South Africa and changed the course of Indian history by leading India’s freedom struggle. PBD is celebrated in Indian Missions the world over to mark the contribution of eminent overseas Indians in building a glorious future for India in particular, and the world at large, and acknowledges their achievements.

Pravasi Bhartiya Divas is an occasion to be celebrated with a sense of pride and exuberance. Members of the Indian community and friends of India in Jordan participated in the celebrations. Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Smt. Shubhdarshini Tripathi, recalled the important role Indian Diaspora played and outlined the various programmes run by the Government of India and the Ministry of External Affairs, in particular, for the benefit of the members of Indian Diaspora all over the world. There was an interactive session with the members of the Indian community which discussed the ways in which Indian community in Jordan could complement the efforts made by the Mission in Jordan. Excerpts from Hon'ble Prime Minister's speech at the First Pravasi Saansad Sammelan (PIO Parliamentarians Conference) at PBK were screened. A short film “Bridging Worlds – Routes to Roots”, was screened on the occasion.
