ICCR Sponsored Rajasthani Cultural Troupe in Jordan As part of the year-long festivities of 70 years of our Independence, Embassy of India organized 3 events to showcase India’s rich heritage and promote multi-layered cultural exchanges between the peoples of India and Jordan. The first event was organised on the eve of 69th Republic day on 25 January 2018 at the Royal Cultural Center, Amman; second at the Irbid Cultural Center, Irbid on 28 January 2018 and the last at the King Abdullah II Cultural Center, Al Zarqa on 29 January 2018. 2. Sponsored by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), the 10-member cultural troupe led by Shri Sadiq Khan Langa from Rajasthan, performed to packed audiences in the prestigious Royal Cultural Center, Amman. H.E. Mr. Nabih Shuqum, Hon’ble Minister of Culture of the Government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, was the Chief Guest during the Cultural Troupe’s performance. Welcoming the audiences, Ambassador Smt. Shubhdarshini Tripathi informed them of the rich and vibrant culture of the State of Rajasthan and about the culture and traditions in general in different parts of India. H.E. Mr. Nabih Shuqum, the Hon’ble Culture Minister, addressed the audience during the occasion in which he praised the rich and diverse culture of India and hoped for more such cultural exchanges between peoples of Jordan and India. The troupe’s performance in Amman included a variety of folk songs and dances including Kalbeliya, Bhavai, Gramin, Cherry Dance and Banjara dances. The nearly packed audiences were drawn out of various walks of life including local dignitaries, diplomatic corps, artists and Indians and friends of India in Amman. 3. Mission organised the second evening of Indian Folk Music and Dance by cultural troupe at the Irbid Cultural Center, Irbid on 28 January 2018. Deputy Governor of Irbid, H.E. Mr. Ghazi Al Kablan attended the event as the Chief Guest on the occasion. Nearly 250-strong audience was mainly comprised of local population from Irbid and Indian nationals and friends of India in Irbid. 4. The Third evening of Indian Folk Music enthralled the audiences in Royal Culturla Center, Zarqa on 29 January 2018 where H.E. Mr. Mohammed Smairan graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
