13 April 2017 - Traditional Indian New Year Celebrations


Embassy of India, Amman in cooperation with the Jordan-India Friendship Society (JIFS) celebrated Baisakhi, Pohela Boishakh, Vishu, Ugadi and other traditional Indian New Year Festivals in Amman on 13 April 2017.

Ambassador of India to Jordan, Mrs. Shubhdarshini Tripathi, introduced the members of the audience to these rich and varied customs and traditions of India, explaining the importance of these festivals which are celebrated all across the country. The audience was drawn from members of Indian community, friends of India in Jordan, members of the diplomatic corps (who attended 126th Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations earlier in the evening). Sharing the commonalities of culture between our two countries, Ms. Lubna Yasmine, First Secretary, Embassy of Bangladesh in Jordan gave a fine performance of Rabindra Sangeet to the audience. This was followed by an enchanting dance performance by a Bengali troupe to a traditional Bangla song. Traditional Indian Punjabi Bhangra performance was also screened for the audience on the occasion.
